The New South Wales and Commonwealth governments have announced the final round of funding for Infection Prevention and Control training and certification. Registrations are a first-in-first-served basis. Registrations are open until 16th February, this will put you in the queue for a fully funded placement. Registrations after this date may be successful, dependent on surplus allocations.
Who is it for?
This course is suitable for employees who have:
- been working in a customer facing role
- have been applying infection control policies and procedures in your workplace for at least a month
- have access to someone in their workplace who can attest to them applying infection control policies and procedures
To be eligible for a government subsidised (training at no cost) place employees must be:
- an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or a humanitarian visa holder
- aged 15 years or older and no longer at school (or equivalent)
- living or working in NSW
Course date
This is an online, self-paced course which you should aim to complete within three weeks of commencement. The course, including learning and assessment, takes approximately four hours in total.
The Course
This course has been designed to provide people in real estate with an understanding of what infection prevention and control is, how infection occurs in your sector, and the steps you can take to help minimise the risk of infection.
It has been developed to cover the unit of competency HLTINFCOV001, Comply with Infection Prevention and Control Policies and Procedures. To be issued with the national statement of attainment, learners will need to complete the following:

Overview | Basic microbiology and the chain of infection, so participants have a base understanding for applying precautions. | 30 minutes |
Precautions | Standard and transmission based precautions used to break the chain of infection and stop the spread. Why these are important and how to implement them properly. | 60 minutes |
Risk Management | Risk assessment process applied to infection control, where participants have the opportunity to apply what they’ve learnt to their workplace and take a risk based approach to applying infection prevention and control precautions. | 30 minutes |
Assessment | Learners will need to answer a series of online multiple choice and short answer questions. They will also need to provide photographic or video evidence of them applying what they’ve learnt in the workplace. | Allow 2 hours |
- Follow precautions for infection prevention and control.
- Identify infection hazards and assess the risk, and
- Follow procedures for managing risks associated with infection transmission.
